The Elven Faction
Brief Faction History
The Elven Faction is one of 9 playable Factions available your character has the option of choosing from. The Elven, as far as it's known, is only found on the Avarra Continent restricted in Ereglad and residing in the Tarron Kingdom. This Faction is mysterious to foreign Factions and very little is truly known to "Outsiders" It's very rare for interaction with other species, especially about their own culture and beliefs. It is probable that the Elven know how they truly got to our world but it is not shared, as far as we know. We do not know how they really got here, created from Magic perhaps? Were they here before the Gods and Goddesses? There are a hundred different theories but only they know the truth.. Each passing year that goes by it seems returning from where they came from grows grimmer, it is rumored that this culture is beginning to cease teaching their young about their true origin and beginning from where their recorded history on this planet began.

How long they've been here, and where they came from, is a complete mystery unbeknownst to them that there was already an established species here, the Creatio, and well established Kingdoms when this species and their leader, Tarron, began exploring the lands both species were in for a culture shock as well as mesmerized by each other. The Elven are noted to be some of the most beautiful equines eyes have ever laid upon. Caution struck Tarron's gut feeling with this Creatio species as they were called, but since their interaction was a peaceful one Tarron allowed his kind to mingle with these interesting equines, and so they began to build a new life for themselves in hopes one day their Gods and Goddesses allow them to return home. Tarron was able to build a kingdom in open arms. Though things were not peaceful for long, when Ares began uprooting the world that everyone knew launching a full attack against Magic it took a toll on his people's morality, being able to avoid the Gods and Goddesses war by not taking sides at it wasn't their concerns, they saw what true monstrocity Gods and Goddesses can do to themselves, and even the innocent. Tarron's Warriors and Mages were able to fend off any attack that did come to their kingdom's gates. In the mourn after the war Tarron took in the injured, the sick, and the young now orphaned from the tragedies of war, he allowed many to learn about their culture, advanced healing not taught anywhere else, even sharing Magic practices with surviving Mages who were taken in, things still remained peaceful in these dark times for the rest of the world.

But, that soon came crashing to a halt as mass hysteria broke out among the kingdom when it was discovered a child was produced between an Elven and Creatio, an ultimate insult to such a pure species as Tarron put it, he allowed their kind into his kingdom, given shelter, food, and allowed to learn their ways with one strict rule, a Creatio stallion will not lay with an Elven mare and an Elven stallion shall not lay with a Creatio mare, and that child grew, and died very young, the Elven, have always been an immortal species, because of this abomination it is believed their Gods and Goddesses were angry with them and took away their immortality as it was not only that child died, but other soon began passing too, for the first time the species learned they can die. Tarron drove every last Creatio out of his kingdom, back into the shambles of other kingdoms barely on their last legs from the war, sparking the first bad mark between the two species, they were not to return, his kind was not to welcome anymore of these Outsiders.

And so this is how it remained even after Mia Ti's emergence in the world, Tarron would not accept any reasonings she offered him to bring every Faction together peacefully, those of his people who wanted to follow her ways were banished from the kingdom left to fend for themselves, and he was right to not subject his kind to what was to come- her son. When Thomasteus turned on the world and murdered his own mother he nearly ended all existence in Terra. Thomasteus's forces chased any Elven equines to the edges of the world, Tarron Kingdom, and Tarron had no choice but to accept those he banished back into his graces for he would not allow his kind to be slaughtered by the so called Adameic, although with immortality no longer on the Elven's side, they were being slaughtered in great numbers, in inhumane, horrific ways, structures and sacred grounds were torn apart, stained with blood of innocents, Tarron couldn't bare the cries that echoed on his land and resorted to Blood Magic accepting his new fate as a Blood Mage and horrors the Adameic have never forgotten were casted upon them for the slaughter the Elven suffered. Just as Heka had cursed the forest surrounding the Circle, Tarron placed a truly evil and dark curse on the border of Ereglad where dark forces roam devouring Creatio and Adameic species still to this day. This curse has an intelligence, a conscious, intelligent to be able to tell apart Elven from other species. Pure Magic might flow in every Elven equine, but personal strength sometimes fails them... And Tarron was not strong enough to keep the Demons free of his mind, they wanted more, they wanted destruction and death, even of his own people, so Tarron threw himself over a cliff dropping to his death to protect his people from the malevolent forces coursing through his body. With the Elven's world left in shambles and ruin and no ruler Wynn and Esta stepped up to take leadership of what little remained, and still rule to this day.
Brief Clan History
Elven clans did not exist in Tarron's rule, only when Wynn and Esta took charge of the kingdom. These clans can be found on the outskirts of Ereglad, a very small piece of land before Adameic territory begins. Clans formed for many different reasons, equines who couldn't follow the rules Wynn and Esta set in place, falling out of religion, social outcasts, abominations from unlawful breeding, there are many reasons why a clan may form.. There are no known rivalries between clans, they co-exist peacefully even if there are separate beliefs, to each their own. Clans are composed of Elven Warriors, Mages, Commoners, and very rarely, equines of other species who want to adopt the Elven way. A Keeper is assigned to be leader of each clan and is usually the eldest, unless otherwise voted.

Elven Customs & Traditions
Birthing Of A Child (Custom): When a mare is close to giving birth to her child, they will return to Nahali Lake where the foal was conceived and birth them there. The journey back from the lake is a bonding experience between mother and foal, upon return the two will venture to Scota's Sanctuary where the child will be baptised so to speak in the waters from the sanctuary.

Marriage (Custom): Sexuality is not shy with the Elven, same sex couples are allowed to marry one another, and are free to be openly out in their relationships, when one wishes to make their significant other bonded in marriage they must seek the approval of the others parents, and get the approval from the King and Queen. After their blessings are given, they will craft a betrothal crown of their liking for them and they will wear it upon their head. An engagement may last a year or longer, they are rarely broken and are only able to be broken by the parents, if an engagement should be broken off the crown presented at the time of the engagement shall be melted down as if it never existed.

Weddings (Custom): Due to current circumstances in the world, weddings are small gatherings between close friends and family and light on food and drink due to scarce resources, a party may or may not take place, or even a wedding, that is entirely up to the couple. On the same day of marriage a couple may only lay with each other for the first time at Hanali Lake, the famous hidden lake. Hanali Lake is known for its extraordinary beauty, giant Doitsu, Kumonryu and Tancho Koi swim, the grass changes color with each step of the hoof and blow of the wind, and nature spirits roam. When the breeding is complete they will spend the night and return to Tarron in the morning. When the mare is ready to foal, she will make a journey alone to the lake once more.

Death (Custom): A species once immortal, made mortal, is a sad and scary time when one passes on to a new journey of life, the body of the deceased must be prepared at once by being freshly cleaned, and either wrapped in white silk, or remain in the state of when they were born- nothing, and fresh flowers will be threaded through the mane and tail of him or her and placed into the ground. More flowers will be laid upon the body and the grave before being buried and once buried a blessing will be said and it is believed the deceased gives back the energy they borrowed during their life and are met by the God Donn to go to the afterlife.

The Athersena "Soul Search" (Custom): Word origin: Aether means "soul" rensar means ' to hunt / search' Unless an Elven is a prodigy in Magic or combat skills all Elven are required ONE YEAR before Adulthood (18 ) to take a search to find their true self and meaning in life and what they will do in society ( the path of the Mage, Warrior, or Commoner ) This is not necessarily a physical search although some may wish to separate themselves from everyone and travel to gain clarity in their search to better understand their path . Atherensa is a VITAL part of tradition as it is not only a search in finding one's true self, but is also a journey of deepening their Magic roots and forming a heightened sense of allegiance to the Gods and Goddesses . One year before adulthood is REQUIRED however this can take MANY YEARS for some to figure themselves out and parents are never sure when they will see their children again , this is the time younglings gain their independence and are no longer sheltered from the true world. If a Elven should not be able to find their way there is no room for them in society and they will be casted out and may the Gods watch over them.

Winterfest (Tradition): Winterfest takes place in the month of Frost and is a 12 day lasting holiday each day celebrating a different God or Goddess. Those that favor a certain God or Goddess will celebrate when it's their day of worship.

Solitara (Tradition): While Elven are usually docile and calm that's not the case with everyone. Solitara is a day right before the new year, the same day that is celebrated by the Creatio and Adameic, and is an opportunity for an Elven to change who they are , their personality and the life they are living with no harm done if they wish to change who they are becoming who they were.

Day Of Hearts (Tradition): Aine is the Goddess of Love. This holiday is celebrated the whole month of Eros in her honor for the love that the Elven find whether it be a mutual friendship, a relationship, a marriage.

Springrite (Tradition): This holiday celebrates the life and fertility of the Elven taking place on the Spring Equinox. This holiday is very common for the Elven to marry and also when breedings are known to take place at Hanali Lake. It's also common for many proposals to be popping up around this joyous time!

Fallrite (Tradition): Springrite is to celebrate life, Fallrite celebrates death. Every member in the kingdom, and clan, knows who Tarron was and the sacrifice that he gave so his kind may live. This day celebrates his sacrifice and honors the Warriors and Mages that protect the kingdom. They look back on that day in the Black Age and are reminded of the presence of their enemies. This is also a night where the entire Elven species, clan included, come together at Tarrons Kingdom and the King and Queen announce their prisoners captured this year. For the Elven blood that was shed that day of all their members they offer the blood of their enemies to Donn as a reminder that those that died that day was not for nothing.

Cultural Notes
Food
-
Every Elven equine is natural hunter, this faction is both carnivorous and omnivore, one can't be picky with scarce food supply. They must rely on hunting and foraging if they want to survive. They also rely on the gifts the chital gives them, their milk gives them the capability to make butter and cheese, and other dairy. Equines can rely on berries, roots, nuts, and various bugs to get by when hunting parties are unsuccessful and crops are suffering.
-
When an animal is killed, a prayer will be said over the body so the animals soul may go to the afterlife, and the left behind physical body may nourish those who hunted it for a day.
-
All food is blessed with a prayer, and must be washed before consumption.
-
Many offerings of fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, anything colorful can be found as gifts to one's patron in Scota's Sanctuary sitting on and around their alter.
-
Food and drink is shared, it is never kept selfishly to one's self in these times, often the kingdom eats together at giant banquet gatherings to ensure everyone has gotten a meal. Elders are served first, then the children, then everyone else, the King and Queen choose to eat what remains.

Etiquette

-
to be determined
-

Education & Lore Keeping
-
All lore is passed down orally, both in the kingdom and in clans, there have been no retrieved books that suggest the Elven have ever written any of their lore or history down, they pass their history, stories and knowledge down by word of mouth or in visual acts. In Tarron, lore is tried to be kept as accurately and alive as possible, depending on the clan, that can be twisted into what they believe in etc. Lore may vary from clan to clan.
-
There are no schools in this culture, schools were done away with when Tarron banished the Creatio after the breeding between his kind and theirs there was no need for them anymore since parents of the Unsullied are expected to bring their children up teaching them about the Elven God's and Goddesses, spirituality, and any Elven culture, but to be sheltered from outside world knowledge such as the Creatio, the Adameic, and their world until the child is believed to be able to mentally handle and process that kind of information.
-
Clans may share their lore with Outsiders since they are not apart of the kingdom or anyone's rule but their Keeper but it is forbidden by those in Tarron to share culture or history with Outsiders.

Spirituality & Religion
-
The Elven do not believe in natural malevolence, it must be provoked for them to have to take the life of someone else, they do not mindlessly kill.
-
The Elven are very in tune with nature, the Spirits, and even can tap into the afterlife at times, they believe that their body is only temporary, and time and energy is only borrowed from the Gods and Goddesses and eventually is given back and they will continue life untied to a physical body and that the afterlife is an entirely different universe they will continue living in all together suggesting no one ever really dies.
-
There is a mutual respect and equality to all living things.
-
Because of their deep rooted religion prayer is performed at sunrise, sundown, before every meal, ceremonies for any occasion, and before sleep
-
Equines can believe in multiple Gods or Goddesses if they wish to, but often they have one Patron they believe guides them throughout their lives and is constantly teaching them all they need, even if they might not understand it yet. They are unashamed of how much they believe in their faith, and those few who do not believe anymore and have the same views as the rest of society are viewed as lost souls as opposed to something malevolent and hateful.
Magic
-
Magic is apart of every single pure Elven equine, they must be 100% Elven, abominations of mixed breedings between Creatio and Adameic result in a 50/50 chance of the offspring having Magic or none at all. Magic will always be present in purebred Elven.
-
To control their Magic if they're not naturally gifted to be able to do so, meditation is required, meditation is usually performed for 20 minutes every day, sometimes more as a lot can be learned from it.
-
It is believed that Magic stems from their Gods and Goddesses when performing huge mighty spells a trinket of some sort that has been blessed in the waters of Scota's Sanctuary is worn or kept on the equine as their God or Goddess they believe in ( or multiple ) will work through this piece allowing them to borrow mighty Magic. Smaller everyday uses of Magic does not require this step. A prayer before and after is said when using powerful Magic.
-
Commoners who take jobs such as Performers / Storytellers / Musicians are noted to incorporate their Magic in song, telling and visual acts!
